Calendar

THE MONTREAL RIVER

I've had people tell me this is a calendar shot and while I am not so sure of that it is one of my personal favs.

This was taken from a bridge on Highway 65 between Matachewan and Elk Lake ON.

Frost

Earlier this morning I posted two shots that were taken yesterday. I made mention of how cold I felt as I was taking these shots. Well, this morning I woke up and it's quite a bit colder this morning but the sky is nice and blue. It's pretty much what a late December day should be in this part of the country, about -18c when I got up this morning. When I looked out the front door I was greeted with this......

This one here at the botom is simply a tighter crop of the first. Enjoy, and bear in mind that shivering was created by nature as a way to keep warm so shiver away.

A grey day

Sometimes in the winter you just don't get the light you are really looking for. So, you wait, hoping for a change in the conditions.
Find a nice restaurant to have lunch. In this case we were in the small town of Matachewan, which is where I grew up. Lunch was at a place called Marg's Log Cabin Restaurant.
On the shores of the Montreal River there is a wonderful view of the river, above, the food was great, and the company was even better.

The shot below is another view of the river, taken from just across the road.
This is an example of what you can do in poor light conditions. Don't try getting something that is not there, there was no colour to be had, so why try? Make a B&W image. I think this shot feels cold, I was facing North here and there was a pretty good breeze coming down the river. Brrr! Of course the picnic table is simply waiting for a warmer time, waiting to once again hear the laughter of children as they play in the water. Let the countdown to spring begin.

Welcome

Welcome to the blog, this is the first entry here so please bear with me. I thought I would start with a classic winter scene. A large spruce tree which had produced a lot of cones the previous summer. All comments and critigues are welcomed
